Roni's Older News (July-October 2006)
On to the Next Book - October 2, 2006
Well I finished To Kill a Mockingbird. It only took me 3 weeks. Not to bad for working mom with a 15 month old. I liked it. It took awhile for me to get used to the southern dialogue but after awhile it became transparent. I'm off to start my next book, Lord of the Flies. It was recommended to me by 2 people, my mom and my friend Patrick. This one I know a little bit about because I saw the movie when I was a kid, but I don't remember much besides the fact the boys get stranded on an island and something about a pigs head on a stick.
Movie Mania - Spetmeber 17, 2006
We finally did it! Bill and I saw a movie in a theater without the baby! We hired a babysitter this afternoon and went to a matinee showing of Little Miss Sunshine. The car ride on the way there was a little weird as we got used to the idea of Ryan staying home without us. Once we got to the theater we felt a little better after our check in call to home.
The movie was great! It was funny and heartfelt. The cast was phenomenal too. I really recommend seeing it if you get a chance. It was actually the second good movie we saw this weekend after we rented The Matador on Friday. I would categorize both movies as good dysfunctional comedies. Little miss Sunshine focusing on the dysfunctional family and The Matador on a dysfunctional hit man. They were both a little of the wall, funny, entertaining and, in their own ways, sweet.
I'm hoping we can do the babysitter thing a little more often and catch a movie in the theater at least monthly. That would be nice. :)
Reading and Skinny Dip'in - September 9, 2006
Those of you that know me know I'm not a big reader. I love books but if it's not a true crime or computer book I rarely find time to get enough reading in to finish a fiction story. Well on vacation this year my friend had the book Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen. I read the first few chapters at the beach and was intrigued. So a few weeks later while at barnes and Nobles I picked it up. Every night I would read a chapter or two. Then I started squishing in a few pages here and there while the baby was playing or while bill was watching football. I couldn't put it down! (This hardly ever happens to me.)
The book was funny, over the top and very entertaining. After I read it I checked out the reviews on Amazon and most people feel the same way I do. So if it's not too late for a new summer book I'd pick this one up. I think you will enjoy it.
My next read is To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm making it a personal goal to read more. So if you have any recommendation please let me know.
How Cool is This? - September 2, 2006
Find out what song was Number one on any given day! Pretty neat. Thought I'd share. :)
Girls on the Beach - August 12, 2006
Yesterday I got back from a nice 3 day beach vacation to Rehoboth DE with just "the girls". GOD I needed that. We had a blast! Beach, pool, shopping, drinking, eating ice cream, who could ask for anything more on a vacation. I took a few pictures, but not many, I was enjoying myself too much!
My Second 29th Birthday - July 24, 2006
No really, I'm 30 today and you know what? I'm glad. For all the jokes about turning 30 it's not all that bad. I like where I am and I'm more comfortable, confident and happy then I've ever been in my life.
I came across this quote by Andy Rooney from CBS 60 Minutes and I think it's perfect! Enjoy!
As I grow in age, I value women who are over 30 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 30 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, What are you thinking? She doesn’t care what you think.
If a woman over 30 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it’s usually something more interesting.
A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom.
Few women past the age of 30 give a damn what you might think about her or what she’s doing.
Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.A woman over 30 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends.
A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn’t trust the guy with other women.
Women over 30 couldn’t care less if you’re attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won’t betray her.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 30. They always know.
A woman over 30 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 30 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one!
You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 30 for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 30+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.
Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free. Here’s an update for you.
Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage

Lazy Summer Break - July 3, 2006
If you haven't noticed I've been pretty inactive on the site. I'm taking full advantage of being a teacher this year and taking my first summer break since college. I do have some plans on re-doing a few areas and possibly redesign the site a little but nothing too big.
This weekend Bill and I are hitting Atlantic City as an early birthday gift to me and then the following week it's off to our yearly trip to the Jersey shore with the family. After that I'm planning a girls vacation to Rehoboth beach with some old friends. I told you I'm living it up! :)

Sorry I missed the Fourth with you guys! How are all these Jersey plans working out? I hope you the budget stuff didn't spoil it all for you. L

Honestly Im a big wizard of oz fan, I read Wicked ( story of the 2 witches) and then SON OF a witch. Gregory Mc Guire has tons of books Mirror Mirror ( how the mirror came to be), wicked step sister, Leaping Beauty etc, all kids fantasy stories made better for adults. DEB
